About Admitting Failure

Fact: Today is February 25th.
Fact: There are four full days left of the month.
Fact: February is the shortest month.
Fact: I failed at my “2014 February Blog Post Challenge.”

I admit that I failed at my goal. I by the end of February, I should have 28 new blog posts; however, this post is the 8th blog post I’ve done this month. I fell very shy of my goal. I’m disappointed in myself that I wasn’t able to blog about something every single day. I have enough to write about (I think?), but I just couldn’t put it into words. Mostly, I just figured it wasn’t interesting enough.

But then I stopped to really think. Since I started blogging a few years ago, I would post once, maaaaaaybe twice, a month. And this month I posted eight times already. It’s actually a huge accomplishment for me, so I should be proud. I am proud of myself. I really pushed myself to post regularly. It was a lot harder than I expected it to be. I’m usually pretty terrified of what people are going to say about the things that I write about. But why should I be? I have no real reason to be afraid.

Yes, I failed at posting every day for 28 days, but I posted more in one month that I normally do in six months. I’ve realized that while typing out my thoughts, I get a serious case of ADD, so I have about five drafts in the queue that remain unfinished. I’ll get to those eventually.

I just need to realize that I give myself huge goals which scare me: scare me because I tend to push myself really hard, but apparently not hard enough to reach my goals. But, you know what? I’m still looking on the bright side. I posted way more than I would have if I didn’t join the Blog Challenge.

And for that, I am grateful.

I’m happy to announce that fellow blogger and friend Kelsey Hoff has awarded me the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. She award me back in December, but I never followed through with the directions. Better late than never! DragonsLoyaltyAward

The philosophy of the award is:

1. Firstly, display the Award on your site (see Award page or sidebar!) You earned it and you deserve it!
2. Link back to the person who gave you the award in your acceptance post;
3. Nominate 15 well-deserving bloggers for the Award and let them know the wonderful news by sending them a message on their site;
4. List 7 interesting facts about yourself.

My nominees for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award

2. My boyfriend. He doesn’t have a blog to link to either, but he reads my posts religiously, even before we were together. He can post it on his Reddit account if he wants. Ha. 🙂

6. I started this blog four years ago today (Happy Anniversary to me), but it took me two years to finally publish something.
7. My lucky day is Fri the 13th.

(And if you want to know more, I recently did an interview on my social media platforms.)

A Little More Revealing

I decided to ask on all of my social networks, “if you could interview me, what would you ask? Serious and funny.”  I had a ton of fun answering these! Thank you so much for everyone who asked me questions. I did NOT skip any questions, but I did try and categorize them into sections. Anything that got posted, I answered. Enjoy getting to know me!

THE BODY

Do you wear colored contacts?
No. I get asked this question a lot because I have blue eyes. I do wear contacts from time to time, but they are not colored.

Do you have tattoos?
Yes-5 of them.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?
My legs. I’ve played sports my entire life, so I have big calves. They look to muscular, and I can’t fit in a lot of cute boots.

Are you left or right handed?
Right

Do you have any piercings?
Yes. I only have one hole on each ear. I used to have a second hole in each ear and a stud in my nose, but those have both closed up.

FAVORITES

Favorite sandwich?
I’m totally going to get judged for this one… Grilled cheese with peanut butter. After it’s cooled, I open it up and put on some French Onion dip and potato chips. Don’t knock it until you try it!

What is your favorite season?
Autumn. I absolutely LOVE the colors.

What is your favorite TV show?
I watch entirely too much TV now, and I just can’t pick one: House of Cards, The Blacklist, Game of Thrones, Orange is the New Black, Pretty Little Liars, Revenge, Nashville, Scandal and Psych. And I loved Breaking Bad, Lost, and Smash, but they are no longer airing.

What is your favorite color?
Orange

Where is your favorite place to eat?
Any Mexican restaurant. I could eat Mexican food every day. Guacamole please!

What is your favorite book and why?
Ah! This is such a tough one! I’m going to have to go with Neil Gaiman American Gods. I really love his writing style. I also really like any kind of mythology. I think I enjoy his books a lot because I studied mythology in school, (heavy on Norse mythology) so I have a lot of “I KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS” moments.

What is your favorite ritual?
Not sure what context this is supposed to be in, but I’m going to say getting facials with my brother’s girlfriend Lauren once a month at Aveda.

What is your favorite wine?
This is a toss up depending on my mood and/or what I’m eating. I really enjoy Pinot Noir. I’ll drink this whenever we have red meat or if I just need to have one glass of wine and relax. If we are having white meat and/or I want to have a few glasses of wine, I opt for Savignon Blanc.

TALENTS

Do you play any musical instruments?
No. And you wouldn’t want me to try either. I am extremely musically challenged. I wish I knew how to play piano. My fingers are long enough. My mom is jealous.

Do you speak another language?
Fluently, no. But I know enough Spanish to be comfortable enough. I also know American Sign Language. Very rusty, though.

How many words per minute do you type?
Last time I did a test was in college. I got 68. I know I type faster than that now. I could retest myself, but I’m writing this on my phone.

What is the biggest undeveloped talent you have?
I feel like I could be more creative with the arts. I can’t draw to save my life, but I do like making things, including painting my nails. I find all these near ideas on Pinterest to decorate the house, but never do them. I just don’t have the patience.

RANDOMS

What is your dream job?
I would love to be a social media strategist and do some copy-editing on the side.

If you could only eat steak or potatoes for the rest of your life, which would you pick?
As much as I love steak, I would have to pick potatoes only because I would actually be able to survive then.

What is one area that women are far superior to men?
Multi-tasking

What’s in your purse?
Wallet, coins, tampons, sunglasses, hair clip, bobby pins, business cards in a holder, pen, eye glasses wipes, hand lotion, chapstick, random receipts, cough drops, nail file, and tissues.

Will you marry me?
Very sweet, but no. I’m in love with Josh. 🙂

What is your preferred melee weapon for post apocalypse?
Katana

What did you want to be as a child?
Chemist

Fasten then zip or zip then fasten?
I’m assuming this is about putting on pants? Zip then fasten.

Toilet paper: over or under?
Over

If I was to give you a superpower, what would it be?
I would LOVE to be able to heal people. From anything from a little paper cut, acne, or headache to broken bones or cancer.

If you could get rid of one state in the US, which wound it be and why?
WHAT? So random… ummm how about we just combine the Dakotas?

What do you think of the most intriguing thing about you?
I think the people who know me can answer this better than I because I don’t think I’m that intriguing! Imm, I’ll pick my ability to write.

What do I do if I want you to look at my writing?
Just ask.

Who is the craziest person in your family?
My mother asked me this. Ha. I’m going to say my Aunt.

What is the best thing modern science has done for us?
Anything in the medical field. It’s amazing. My best girl friend recently had a pancreatic islet cell transplant. Absolutely mind blowing.

LET’S GET SERIOUS

What is one thing in your life that comes close to perfect?
My love life. I’m dating my best friend and couldn’t be happier. I even wrote about this previously. You can view that here.

What are your thoughts on interracial relationships? Why does society still overall have problems with it?”
I’m Pro-Love. I don’t care of someone is purple. If you’re happy, be happy. Society still has problems with it because society sucks, for lack of a better word. There’s still many people alive from older generations who grew up thinking differently than we do. They grew up believing it was illegal for blacks and whites to get married. People tend to be stuck in their ways and there’s no changing it.

Do you think it’s possible for men and women to maintain friendships after being intimate with independent another??”
No. At first it seems possible, but then once someone starts dating, it never works out to stay friends.

Why is it so difficult for men and women to be honest with one another about what the want from each other?”
I’m assuming this is a relationship question. I think people have a fear that what they want won’t coincide with what the other person wants. Sometimes it is better to just enjoy what you currently have instead of taking about what you want.

THE RIDICULOUS ONES:

What is your name?
My friend Tommy thought this would be funny… My name is Megan. I’m not named after anyone.

What does the Fox say?
I’m going to kill my sister for asking this, but I said I would answer all of these questions.

Why does the Mona Lisa have a smile on her face?
Umm, because that’s how she was painted. Goofy question.

If you opened a door and saw a person of the opposite sex standing there butt naked, what is the first thing you would say?
“Are you drunk?”

I triple checked my social media for all the questions and I’m fairly certain I got all of them. However, if you know you asked me something and I missed it, just let me know!

Uncertainty

Weekly Writing Challenge: 1,000 Words | Uncertainty.

http://dailypost.wordpress.com/2014/02/03/inspiration-images-1000-words/#more-68234

In life, I am faced with choices. Some I later regret in life. Like dating that boy who Mom hated, but I did what I wanted anyway and ended up with a broken heart and an “I told you so.” Seriously, always listen to Mom. She knows best. I wish I knew this when I was younger. Some we look back on and laugh and wonder how we ever thought that was a good idea. But each decision I made taught me a lesson: a lesson of life, of love, of friendship…

The feeling of uncertainty overwhelms me often. I do not like uncertainty. But my curiosity usually gets the best of me. I see a tunnel, not knowing there it leads, but I’m going to wander down it anyway. More often than not, I regret it. Sort of. I regret not knowing better, yet, at the same time, I knew deep down that I needed to learn something. I don’t give my self-conscious enough credit. It teaches me lessons I didn’t know I needed to learn. I dated people who I know were bad for me. But I wanted to feel accepted. I wanted to belong. No one wants to be single. No one wants to be the one at the dance sitting at the table in the corner, hoping no one comments on the solidarity, because she didn’t have a date to the dance. Nope. Nope, definitely not talking from experience… nope. So, I’d walk down the darkened path, holding hands, but not too tight: tight enough to know I wasn’t alone, but loose enough to let go once I knew I deserved better. My Reason kicked in eventually.

I never wanted someone to define me.  It was easy to walk in the dark down a mysterious path with someone. I knew there would be an exit at the other end. I didn’t know when, and I didn’t know where, but I knew it would be there. I knew it would show up at some point, so I always looked for the exit.

Life has been an incredible unpredictable journey. Bruises and scars define my life, but they do not restrict my journey. And sometimes, life just might surprise you. And you might just fall in love and find someone to hold onto tightly without thinking about letting go.

Everyday is a journey. Embrace it.

Daily Prompt: The Sincerest Form of Flattery | Papers

Aside

I decided to do a photograph for today via the Daily Prompt: “Copies.”

image

Here in these binders, you will find every paper, story, poem, story outline, or one liners I thought were important. It’s entertaining, yet strangely satisfying knowing that I’ve developed some skills, to look back and reread ones I wrote — probably frantically — back in high-school and wonder how I thought any of that material was worth writing about. At some point, I hope to revisit the material, that is, if I can get over the paltry ramblings.

Wine will be a must.

These are some other entries you should check out. It is a mixture of writing and photos. Enjoy!

Fearless February

Oh, problems. I have problems.

I got 99 problems, but a b*tch ain’t one. Does anyone NOT think of that song when someone confesses that they have problems?

But really. I do. I apparently think that it is acceptable to only write in my blog once every two or three months. That is simply not acceptable. How can I consider myself a blogger if I can’t even keep up with a blog? Oh the humiliation!

I decided to join  a group of bloggers who are doing a challenge this month to write every. single. day. Doesn’t matter what it is about – just as long as you write write write! This is going to be a HUGE challenge for me since my blog posts are pretty infrequent. I might need some encouragement here and there, but I am really excited (yet nervous) to see how well I do. (Wanna join?? Click here.)

I’m going to start off with a review of my blog from 2013. Delayed, I know. I realize it is February, but I need to start somewhere. I need to get my groove back. Hmm, maybe Stella has some advice for me…  I’m really proud of this, despite how scare my posts appeared. There are some amazing statistics in here. Check it out!

Here’s an excerpt:

A San Francisco cable car holds 60 people. This blog was viewed about 2,600 times in 2013. If it were a cable car, it would take about 43 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

After reviewing this report, I’m very disappointed in myself that I only managed to write 22 posts last year. I mean, seriously… TWENTY-FREAKIN-TWO?! That’s completely embarrassing! I most definitely am not a blogger. Not yet anyway. I need to earn this status.

On a more positive note, I have viewers in 50 countries! WHAT? How is that eve possible! I’m so incredibly thankful for everyone who views this blog. But really… FIFTY countries?! So awesome!

Here’s to surpassing my entire 2013 posts in one month! Happy Fearless February!

Until tomorrow.

XOXO
